Pooch Academy’s focus is on helping people live happier lives with their dogs. Whether it be through manners and obedience or fun, crazy classes, we can help you get there.
Because of our dog trainers’ academic backgrounds, we have multiple ways of training new skills and tackling any behavior issue. Most dog training companies only use one training system, such as a remote collar, a clicker, “all positive”, or “all negative”. But, no one method works for every dog, owner, or behavior issue! This is where we excel over the competition; we find the method that works best for you and your dog.Pricing
For the busy dog owner who wants a professionally trained dog.
Dogwoods Lodge specializes in the highest quality professional training. Your dog will be trained by our Triple Crown Academy* Certified Professional Trainer. Just drop your dog off for boarding and let us do the rest. When you come pick up your dog, you will have a fresh start with him. You will receive a “go-home” lesson, so you can learn what your dog has learned and how to use it. We also provide follow-up lessons to go over any issues you may be having at home during the first couple of weeks following training. This helps to ensure that the training “sticks”!
Our programs are 3 weeks in length. Your dog will learn reliable, useful obedience and be able to do so under a high degree of distraction. The 3 week program allows the dogs adequate time to get out of bad habits and into good ones, which is half the battle. The basic obedience skills taught will help counter many of the common behavior problems that occur at home, such as jumping, pulling on the leash, begging at the table, and coming when called. Board & Train can also be used to work on specific problems your dog is having, such as aggression, anxiety, fearfulness, etc. We will provide a free behavioral evaluation for any dog considering Board & Train.
*Triple Crown (now Starmark Academy) is nationally recognized as the industry leader in Board ’n Train.
3 week program: Professional Board ‘n Train Dogs will be taught to sit (stay), place (stay), heel, down (stay) and come. The level of accomplishment is based on each individual dog. However, the majority of dogs in the full program are solid on all elements by the time they complete the program. Most can even perform these behaviors with major distractions.
Our trainer teaches come, sit, stay, down, place, heel, leave it, drop it, go in the crate, kennel training, etc, etc.
Pick up the toys, play hide and seek, pray, sing, roll-over, wave, crawl, jump, play fetch, speak, quiet, play dead, walk on two feet, ring a bell…
The Remote Collar can be a wonderful tool when it is used correctly. Our only stipulations are 1)it cannot be used to treat aggression issues, and 2)the client-dog relationship must be sound first
Whether you have a bad back, bad hip, or just a bad habit of losing your keys, your dog may be able to help you live your day to day life. Teach him to open and close doors, pick up whatever you drop, find the remote or your keys, get the paper, get a beer, etc, etc. People often don’t realize what an amazing asset their dog can be.
In the Home: aggression, separation anxiety, boredom, digging, chewing, barking, whining, jumping on people, nipping, potty training, foraging, etc
Out of the home: aggression (dogs, people, kids), not coming when called, inappropriate behaviors, pulling on the leash, …
